The aim of this event was to educate our team on the best practices to keep our team and the wider community safer out on the roads. In addition to our Sydney team, members of our National team were in attendance who were able to share the key messages with our team across the country.
Our team took this opportunity to talk to the NSW Police Force, the Australian Trucking Association and other industry partners about recent changes in the law and general road safety. Key topics discussed included:

Load restraints
Fatigue management
Speeding
Mass / dimension requirements
Vehicle maintenance

Coffee with a Cop is designed to encourage positive interaction and help build trust outside of the crisis situations that normally bring the police force and the wider community together. We are pleased to be one of the first transport companies involved with taking the ‘Coffee with a Cop’ program to a new audience. By switching the focus from general community discussions to industry specific topics, our team was able to gain a great deal of value, break down barriers and form meaningful relationships. Proactive engagements like these motivate our team to continue to improve practices and compliment those already in place.

Our Townsville branch will remain closed today as the city is declared a disaster zone. Our team are all safe and our thoughts are with all Townsville residents during this time.
Weather reports predict the severe weather will move south affecting Central Coast, Mackay, and Whitsundays regions in the coming days. The timeliness of our service in and out of North Queensland will be affected.

Update: 1st February 2019
Every school in Townsville, Queensland will be closed today as the city is declared a disaster zone. Our Townsville branch is currently opened but deliveries will be affected.

Update: 30 January 2019
Far North Queensland continues to battle with severe weather conditions caused by a monsoon trough that is forecast to remain in the region over the next few days.
This downpour has prompted major road closures affecting our inbound and outbound services. We are currently exploring all options to move freight but there are major delays in these wet conditions.
Our North Queensland branches are open and our drivers are on the roads making deliveries only where it is safe to do so.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time and please be assured our team are focused on delivering the best possible service that the circumstances allow

Major road closures are in place as a monsoon trough extends across North Queensland.

East Coast of Australia bracing as wild weather hits | December 2018

Please be advised the East Coast of Australia is bracing itself for serious storm conditions. Two weather systems are coming together to create a deluge that is set to pummel much of the eastern seaboard in the coming days, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing severe weather warnings in several states (QLD, NSW and VIC).
Victoria is being hit hard at the moment. This severe weather and heavy rainfall is currently impacting traffic across Victoria and may cause disruption to our pick up and delivery service.
Heavy rainfall has sparked road closures across the state. The Hume Fwy is closed in both directions at Barnawartha, essentially between Wangaratta and Chiltern. VicTraffic says people should avoid non-essential driving.
Our branches are open and will be making every effort to minimise the impact on your deliveries. Our drivers are on the roads and making deliveries where it is safe to do so but traffic is slow and delays may be unavoidable.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time and please be assured our team are focused on delivering the best possible service that the circumstances allow.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system over central New South Wales is tracking southeast, with winds over Sydney Waters tending east to northeasterly in response. This low is expected to intensify this morning as it reaches central parts of the New South Wales coast, bringing heavy rainfall about Sydney and strong to gale force winds. South to southwesterly winds will gradually ease during Thursday and Friday as low moves east further away from the coast.
Road Transport
This severe weather will impact traffic across Sydney causing disruption to the timeliness of our pickup and delivery service.
Our branches are open and will be making every effort to minimise the impact on your deliveries. Our drivers are on the roads and making deliveries where it is safe to do so but traffic is slow and delays may be unavoidable.
Air Transport
All tarmac operations were briefly ceased at Sydney Airport due to close lightning. Flights are now continuing but Sydney airport will be operating only one runway throughout the day, resulting in delays.
Wharf operations
Turnaround times at Sydney terminals are extremely delayed this morning and we could see a stop work if dangerous conditions continue. At this stage, both DP WORLD and Patricks have advised as per below that work may cease

Severe weather is providing challenges for all of Sydney but we are persevering.
The electrical storm halted vessel ops briefly this morning, and the Harbour Master has ordered storm lines out at all berths from midday. This will halt vessel ops until this order is rescinded. No new vessels will be opened for export until this interruption is resolved, and there will be changes to some import availabilities due to the impacts to the shipping schedule.
Please continue to monitor 1-Stop notifications and Vessel Schedule for updates as this situation develops.
We are hoping weather conditions will not interrupt road or rail operations, but we will continue to monitor the conditions.

Latest Customer Update addressing the Vessel Ops and these events can be found here.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time and please be assured our team are focused on delivering the best possible service that the circumstances allow.

The annual award is given to a listed company leader who performs outstandingly across their leadership and corporate governance while respecting the rights of shareholders.
NZSA Chairman John Hawkins said "The Beacon Award guidelines have specific guidance criteria. Don Braid is remarkable in that he meets all of these. His vision to make Mainfreight a 100-year company by developing a unique culture, is a trait that is far from universal in senior management”
The Beacon Award is judged against the following criteria –

Leadership and guidance on corporate practice.
Bravery in standing out from the crowd on issues that are controversial and taking stands against the trend on issues of governance, transparency, and individual conduct.
Conducting himself/herself in a manner that is a guide to others, ignoring self-interest, and putting the concerns of others to the fore.
Behaving in a manner that is respectful of the rights of others and treating the smallest shareholder with the respect of a business owner.
Working within the rules and best practice while ensuring fair and equitable outcomes for all.
Or such other acts as may, from time to time, be identified by the executive board of the New Zealand Shareholders’ Association.

Congratulations Don, thank you for striving to achieve nothing but the best for the Mainfreight Team and our shareholders worldwide

For his outstanding leadership and willingness to achieve nothing but the best for the business and our shareholders, Don Braid has been awarded the 2018 New Zealand Shareholders’ Association Beacon Award.

Service Announcement | Melbourne Cup 2018

Yes, it’s that time of year again! Also, if you are based in Melbourne and have a regular/scheduled collection in place but will be closed on Monday please get in touch with your local customer service team or account manager and let them know.
The long weekend may create a backlog of consignments. We appreciate your patience during this time and please be assured that our teams remain focused on delivering the best possible service.
